Ecuadorean authorities Wednesday withdrew earlier official statements
and said they did not arrest prominent FARC leader Sixto Antonio
General Rafael Yépez, director of Ecuador’s Judicial Police, said the man who was under arrest was identified as Mario Biojó and not the member of the FARC‘s military command as Police commander Jaime Hurtado stated earlier.
“We are not dealing with Colombian Sixto Cabana, member of the FARC and wanted by Colombian authorities,” the general said after Colombia sent Ecuador information about the identity of Cabana.
Biojó was arrested on February 20 near the Colombian border and carrying about 20 tanks of chemicals used for the production of cocaine.
U.S. authorities reward information leading to the arrest of Sixto Cabana with US$2.5 million.
