Ecuador fails to find FARC bases

Ecuador failed to find two FARC camps within its borders that Colombia supplied the coordinates for, Ecuadorean Minister for the Interior and Exterior Miguel Carvajal announced Friday.

“Colombia provided the coordinates of the same two alleged FARC camps that they gave us in 2007 and 2008,” Caracol TV quoted the Minister as saying.

“The same thing happened as on previous occasions, that is to say at those coordinates the alleged FARC camps do not exist,” he added.

Colombia gave Ecuador a map detailing the possible location of FARC camps on Ecuadorean territory at the beginning of November.

The two nations have been working at normalizing their relationship since Ecuador broke relations with Colombia after Colombian military bombed the FARC camp of ‘Raul Reyes’ on Ecuadorian soil without permission in March 2008. The attack resulted in the deaths of some 26 people including the international spokesman of the FARC, alias Raul Reyes himself.
