Ecuador dismantled 125 FARC camps in 2010: Ambassador

Ecuador dismantled 125 FARC camps on its side of the border, the country’s new ambassador to Colombia said Thursday.

Raul Vallejo, who took office in Bogota this week, told Colombian press thathis country hopes to convert the troubled border region in a “border of peace.”

The ambassador said Quito hopes to achieve this by promoting development in the region, while the security prevent repress illegal armed groups to operate.

“Ecuador’s policy is that in its territory no illegal armed group is allowed to settle,” Vallejo said.
