Colombia’s ecotourism industry is making efforts to promote itself, backed by the U.N. and Accion Social, Colombia’s presidential aid agency, reports El Colombiano.
Through Accion Social the U.N. has funded a number of ecotourism lodges in Colombia.
Travel agency Colombian Journeys, which works with around 60 travel agencies around the world, is excited about the experience Colombia’s ecotourism lodges can offer. “The flora and fauna, the beaches and food, coupled with our attention, [visitors] will see that this is not a center but their home,” says a representative.
Helder Tirado from the travel agent says that, “the response we have had with domestic tourists confirms the natural goodness of these products.”
Colombian Journeys has produced a catalogue of ecotourism lodges in Colombia. They have had an opportunity to present it at South America’s biggest travel fair, Travelmart 2010 in Lima, and will bring it to fairs all over the world.
The travel agent lists 18 lodges, in Capurgana, Playona, Necocli, San Francisco, Parque Tayrona and Santa Marta.
