Marloes Nijmeijer, sister of Dutch FARC guerrilla Tanja Nijmeijer, has arrived in Colombia to look for her relative in the jungle, reports W Radio.
In 2005, Tanja Nijmeijer’s mother traveled to Colombia to meet with her daughter in the Meta department. She described the meeting as “intense and intimate” and said that when she asked her daughter about her involvement with the FARC, she became “unattainable.”
Hannie Nijmeijer’s daughter, who is now 32 years old, left the Netherlands in 2000 to move to Colombia and teach English. Tanja soon became involved with the FARC, and joined them to live in the jungle in 2003.
When asked whether she expects to be reunited with her daughter, Hannie Nijmeijer said, “since 2005 I have supposed that Tanja would stay with the guerrillas, that it was impossible for her to return.”
