The FARC has lost track of Dutch guerrilla Tanja Nijmeijer and her boyfriend, the nephew of slain FARC commander “Mono Jojoy,” Colombian intelligence sources told newspaper El Tiempo.
The Dutch woman, together with six other FARC members who were close to Mono Jojoy, were in the vicinity of the FARC leader’s camp at the time of the bombing which killed the guerrillas’ military commander. She is now “on the run in the jungle,” the newspaper reported.
Nijmeijer joined the FARC in 2002 and is the only known Western guerrilla active in Colombia’s largest rebel group.
There was speculation that Nijmeijer died in the armed forces air strike, but Colombia’s prosecutor general and Coroner’s Office said Thursday that the body of a female killed in the attack was not that of the Dutch national. This was proved through a comparison with Nijmeijer’s dental records.
