Colombia-DEA operation captures ‘drug trafficker’ wanted for extradition

by Teresa Welsh October 12, 2010

Colombian news - Captured

Colombian police captured alleged drug trafficker Hernan Andres Rivera Perez in a joint operation with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Rivera Perez is wanted for extradition to the United States for trafficking nearly 2 tons of cocaine into the country, as well as in Spain. He was captured in Cali, Valle de Cauca, and authorities said he has ties to an international drug trafficking ring led by Diego Leon Montoya, alias “Don Diego,” who was arrested in 2007.

Don Diego was sentenced in 2009 to 45 years in prison by a Florida court for drug trafficking, money laundering, obstruction of justice and manslaughter. He was one of the FBI’s ten most wanted, with a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture.
