Dolores Salinas, iconic Afro-Colombian singer, dies at 76

Dolores Salinas, one of the singers of “Las Alegres Ambulancias,” an iconic group from the Caribbean town of San Basilio de Palenque, died Thursday at 78.

The iconic Palenquera was one of the most famous Bullerengue singers of Colombia and main singer of the song “La Maldita Vieja,” one of the Alegres Ambulancias’ most famous songs.

Salinas died in a Cartagena hospital after suffering a stroke two weeks ago.

“We deeply regret her departure, yet we thank God for having been able to share years of happiness, singing, dance and revelry with her. She left many fond memories, which will leave a mark on each person that she knew,” her group’s manager told newspaper El Heraldo.
