Doctors optimistic about vice president’s cancer treatment

Doctors are hopeful that Colombia’s vice president has recovered well from his cancer treatment, local media reported Wednesday.

According to Caracol radio, doctors declared Vice President Angelino Garzon’s radiation therapy a success, but said further tests are still needed.

After recovering from a stroke in June, doctors discovered a ‘’microscopic non-aggressive tumor’’ on the vice president’s prostate. Doctors said that 39 radiation sessions five times a week, would likely take care of Garzon’s tumor and on Wednesday they announced that the tumor had “possibly” disappeared, though nothing is final as of yet.

The vice president has said he would abdicate his position because of the tumor but doctors said the illness and the subsequent treatment would not leave him incapacitated. Garzon has continued to fulfill his duties as Colombia’s vice president.
