Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office Monday revealed that DMG boss
David Murcia Guzman paid a lawyer millions of pesos to do lobbying in
During the hearing of Murcia’s trial for illicit enrichment and money laundering charges the Prosecutor presented three wiretap recordings of Daniel Angel and William Suarez, two DMG executives, in which the men talk about the delivery of 760 million pesos, US$360,000, to the lawyer Abelardo De La Espriella.
In one of the recordings of October 29, 2008, Daniel Angel tells an assistants of Murcia about the urgency of the money delivery: “just talked to David, I need to get it urgent, if you cannot do it today then tomorrow, 760, urgent, this is for […] lobby in Congress, […] because tomorrow they are going to do a law […] it is very urgent, it is an issue with the office of Abelardo”.
The Prosecutor also revealed photos of a DMG van that apparently was on his way to the office of De La Espriella on October 30.
Abelardo De La Espriella admitted to Radio Caracol that he received 760 million pesos but as part of fees and not for lobbying in congress.
