Violence displaces dozens near Pacific coast

91 people have been displaced to the Pacific Colombian town of Guapi due to violent clashes between security forces and the FARC, stated the United Nations on Monday.Another 160 people are expected to still be on their way to the town.

The statement provided by OCHA claimed a total of 91 persons had been moved from their community in the Colombian region of Bocas de Napi since September 24 due to the threat of violence in the area.

It is estimated that up to 32 families, consisting of some 160 people, are displaced and on their way to Guapi from the surrounding area for the same reason.

The displaced families are being housed with family or friends and emergency humanitarian assistance is being provided for a period of 30 days. This assistance includes the distribution of ‘habitat kits’.

UNICEF, UNHCR, WFP and OCHA have been in the area since trouble broke out around September 21 and on September 24 the aid organizations met to identify priority cases as well as coordinate a response.

The progression of the situation is under constant surveillance.
