Displaced end occupation Bogotá building

The more than 100 war victims that had been occupying a Bogotá building
since Saturday, agreed to end the occupation after authorities promised
to attend their needs.

The displaced agreed to leave the building after talks with the Attorney General, the Bogotá Ombudsman and Acción Social, the presidential agency responsible for the care of victims of Colombia’s violent conflict.

“We are willing to offer all the necessary help. We will give the adults a humanitarian bonus of 120 thousand pesos (US$58), but only if they leave the building. If they don’t, we won’t be able to give the subsidy,” a spokesperson of Acción Social said, adding that there is no shelter available to house the 141 persons, including 41 children.

The authorities agreed to deal with each case individually, because of the different needs of each family.

The displaced had taken the building to protest the lack of attention they received after having been forced to move to the capital because of violence and say the Government is ignoring the ruling by the Constitutional Court that obligesauthorities to take care of those displaced by the war.
