The director of the Colombian statistics agency DANE has submitted his resignation to president Juan Manuel Santos.
DANE director Jorge Bustamante indicated his desire to resign to President Juan Manuel Santos in June, citing that his reign had run its professional course and that he would be seeking new challenges.
In his letter to the president, Bustamante recounted his successes in office, which included the recovery of statistical operations previously run by other entities.
One of the main struggles throughout Bustamante’s tenure was the lack of resources to conduct a national census. According to reports however, this was not mentioned in his resignation letter.
Bustamante has held office since November 4th, 2010.
Santos is expected to announce Bustamante’s successor in the coming days.
