Copa Mustang side Cúcuta Deportivo have signed no less than eight new
players for the coming season. Most important are the arrivals of
Paraguayan Roberto Gamarra and Uruguayan José Luis Tancredi.
Cúcuta finished dead last in the 2008 Copa Mustang II after having won the league only two years earlier. Manager Jorge Luis Pinto, who was sacked from the Colombian national team last year, has very different plans for 2009 and wants to “win at everything”.
Gamarra joins Cúcuta from Club Libertad in his home country and has been attracted to reinforce the side’s attack. Tancredi meanwhile, comes from Bellavista and should strengthen the team on the wings. Moreover, the Uruguayan is a free kick specialist.
Some of the other names that are set to join Cúcuta ahead of the next tournament are midfielders Édinson Pinzón and José Rodrigo Castilla, both of Atlético Bucaramanga, and former América de Cali defender Fernando Monroy.
In total, Pinto will have 32 to work with this year, unless any other transfers occur.
