Deportes Tolima no match for Cruzeiro in Libertadores

Deportes Tolima’s chances of advancing to the next round of the Copa Libertadores seem slim following a painful 6-1 defeat at Cruzeiro on Wednesday.

Tolima traveled to Brazil as clear underdogs for the match against Cruzeiro, but did not expect the bad start they had as Walter Montillo put the home side in the lead after just three minutes.

Wallyson then added a second in the 32nd minute, and Roger made it 3-0 two minutes after the hour before converting a penalty kick nine minutes later, 4-0.

Christian Marrugo got one back almost immediately, but Cruzeiro had the final say as Gilberto scored the home side’s fifth in the 88th minute. In added time, Thiago Ribeiro made it 6-1.

Tolima are now in third place in Copa Libertadores Group 7, with four points from four games. In their remaining games, the Colombian side face Estudiantes at home and Guarani in Paraguay.
