Police in the western Colombian department of Cauca announced on Friday two separate attacks within the department by guerrilla group FARC in the last 24 hours, reported Colombian media.

According to a statement by the department’s chief of police, Colonel Carlos Ernesto Rodriguez, the first of the two attacks took place in the municipality of Caldono on Thursday and resulted in damage to the town’s church and rectory.

Local authorities stated, however, that no-one was hurt in yesterday’s attack.

The second incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, and saw some twenty members of the rebel band carry out a raid on the Pan American Highway between the towns of Santander de Quilichao and Villa Rica.

Reports by Caracol radio state that the FARC guerrillas attacked two public service buses and stole a cargo truck carrying food, as well as kidnapping three of the vehicle’s occupants.

One women was wounded by a bullet during the attack and is currently being treated in the Santander de Quilichao hospital.

Authorities are searching for the kidnapped individuals.
