Dead Bogotanos reported as guerrillas killed in combat

The eleven young men that disappeared from Bogotá early this year and
were found dead this week in the north west of Colombia, had been
reported as guerrillas killed in combat by the army.

Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos announced an investigation into the disappearing of the eleven, their death and if they rightfully ended up in the guerrilla body count.

Family members of some of the disappeared said Tuesday their loved ones never came back after saying they’d meet a man about work. Some of the relatives said they thought they were recruited by illegal armed groups.

The Colombian army is heavily criticized by international human rights groups because they would report killed civilians as guerrillas killed in combat to increase their apparent effectiveness.
