DAS financial intelligence director investigated in wiretapping scandal

Colombia’s Prosecutor General called the Director of Colombia’s
Financial Information and Analysis Unit, Mario Alejandro Aranguren
Rincon, for questioning about his alleged involvement in the
wiretapping scandal of the DAS, local media reported.

The Prosecution decided this only one day after announcing investigations on four former directors and 30 other current and former officials of the intelligence agency for their involvement in the illegal espionage.

Mario Aranguren resigned after it emerged he gave confidential financial data to security operatives engaged in the wiretapping scandal. President Uribe rejected his resignation for his “outstanding” performances as head of the Financial Information and Analysis Unit.
