DAS denies shadowing senator

Colombia’s intelligence service DAS denies claims by opposition senator
Gustavo Petro (Polo Democrático) he was being shadowed by the service
on
direct orders of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe.

DAS director Maria del Pilar Hurtado said in a communique she never received any order from Uribe to deliver detailed reports about the senator. She also denied claims she was told to establish if there were ties between opposition party Polo Democrático and illegal armed groups.

Petro had denounced the alleged intelligence plot before the First Committee of the Senate.
