CR’s 2009 Christmas charity drive a resounding success

by Adriaan Alsema December 20, 2009

Almost 600 families from one of Medellin‘s poorest communities received food supplies, and over 1,000 of their children received gifts, thanks to readers of Colombia Reports and members of Colombia forum Poorbuthappy.com.

Visitors to the websites donated a total of US$1,720, which, added to money gathered by Mark Kaseman from his own family and friends, made the Christmas charity drive a resounding success.

The event would not have been as successful without the help of almost 50 volunteers who helped distribute food and toys to the approximately 1,300 people present at Kaseman’s annual Christmas party in the El Pinar neighborhood.

The party was also sponsored by Maria Eugenia Maya de Ramos, wife of Antioquia governor Luis Alfredo Ramos, who arranged a bouncy castle for the kids.
