Crocodile terrorizes Colombia’s San Andres island (VIDEO)

A massive crocodile menaced holiday-makers on a busy beach on the exotic San Andres island on Sunday.

The crocodile which appeared to be more than 10ft in length, caused panic among beach-goers who had been casually enjoying the tropical sunshine on the Caribbean beach

Police officers captured the croc and then shot him, a fact which has caused outrage on Twitter with animal-lovers decrying the “murder’ of the endangered animal in the biosphere reserve.

Crocodiles don’t usually inhabit the island but can swim for extremely long distances making it possible one could turn up again, so here are a few tips should you encounter a crocodile.

  • Run
Top-speed for a crocodile is about 11mph, so if you are in decent enough shape, the short-legged reptile should give you up for more hassle than you are worth. Of course if you’re not in good shape it is going to enjoy you all the more so you may need to take note of the next tip.
  • Poke it
If a croc manages to get you in his jaws, don’t struggle, just poke him in his eyes, nostrils or ears and hopefully he will spit you out before going into an underwater death-roll.
