Colombia news - Oscar, "Crap Trap"

Colombia’s Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announces that the film “Crab Trap”, directed by Oscar Ruiz Navia, has been chosen to represent Colombia in the category of Best Foreign Film at the 2011 Academy Awards.

The drama is a meditative look at daily life in a village on the Pacific coast of Colombia. “Crab Trap” explores the nuances of social and racial relations in this remote place, when a visitor gets entangled in the locals’ struggle against a resort developer.

The film has already won the Special Prize for the Best First Film at the International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema in Havana. “Crab Trap” also received the French prizes Decouverte de la Critique Francais and the Rail d’Oc prize.

In January the Academy will release the final list of 25 candidates for the category Best Foreign Film, out of 95 movies from around the world.
