Court forces Bogotá mayor to appear before Congress

A recent ruling by Colombia’s Constitutional Court will force Bogotá
mayor Samuel Moreno to address the soaring crime rate in the capital before Congress.

Statistics such as an increase of 233% in bank robberies and a 4% rise in the number of homicides in Bogotá have raised concern amongst the city’s citizens.

Based on a recent ruling by the Constitutional Court, the mayor is now obligated to explain his failings in Congress. Congressman Nicolás Uribe called upon Moreno to respond to the inadequacies of the security system in the nation’s capital.

Uribe said if Moreno failed to comply, he could be forced to appear in court by the police.

A date has not yet been set for his address to Congress.
