Colombia’s Supreme Court ordered Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos to
testify under oath about the alleged links between opposition senator
Piedad Córdoba and guerrilla group FARC.
Government officials on several occasions accused the Liberal Party senator of being linked to the guerrillas and have pushed the Court into opening an official investigation into the ‘FARC-politics’ of the senator, but have neglected to hand over evidence that support the accusations, sources close to the Court told newspaper El Espectador Tuesday.
The Minister is now ordered to appear before the court and under oath answer questions and specify what files or documents he thinks link the senator to the guerrilla group.
In a response, Santos said he will collaborate with the high court. “I will talk to the Court and if they want more information, we will give them all the information we have,” he told newspaper El Espectador.
According to Santos, the Court so far hasn’t exactly told him what they wanted and he will talk to the magistrates to find out what exactly it is they need.
“If I have information they need, we will gladly give it to them,” Santos added.
Earlier questions sent by the high court to the minister returned with answers that did not say anything concrete.
