Colombia’s Constitutional Court said Tuesday that a policy of free and compulsory elementary school education must be implemented around the country immediately

The court made the ruling after analyzing law 115 of 94, which sets out academic rights.

The judicial body recognized that certain sectors in the country provide free education, but noted that it is not obligatory.

According to the court, the Colombian state has a 36-year-old debt to children in terms of providing education.
