The Supreme Court made contact with the United Nations (UN) in regards to the DAS illegal wiretapping scandal and judicial independence.
President of the Supreme Court Augusto Ibáñez said that UN Human Rights delegate Christopher Salazar had been contacted in order that the issue be included on the international organization’s agenda.

In a statement released Friday morning the Supreme Court had requested that “the National Government to set
a date very soon for the rapporteur for Judicial Independence of the
United Nations to come to our Republic.”
The court had also requested that the President personally make a
public statement on the scandal and publicly promise guarantees
that magistrates and judges could do their work without being shadowed by
State agents.
Colombian intelligence service DAS is suspected of illegally wiretapping judges, journalists and political opponents of Uribe.
