‘Corrupt’ eastern Colombia governor barred from holding office

Colombia’s Inspector General’s Office on Monday barred the suspended governor of the eastern Colombian department of Casanare from holding office for 14 and a half years over corruption charges.

Governor Oscar Raul Ivan Florez Chavez had already been suspended since April while the IG’s Office was investigating corruption allegations.

The now ex-governor is implicated in a scandal involving the illegal concessions of public works worth nearly $200 million.
