Correa’s ties to FARC made public in 2007: former Ecuador President

Former President of Ecuador, Lucio Gutierrez, released a 2007 video
wherein Panama’s highest anti-corruption official denounces ties
between the current President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and Colombia’s
largest rebel group FARC.

Gutierrez showed the recordings on Ecuadorean television station UNO and said the video “was made public in 2007, before the bombing [by Colombia’s military on a FARC camp in Ecuador] …, before they made teh content of the computers of [FARC commander] Raul Reyes public.

In the video, a Panamanian anchor tells Enrique Montenegro, Secretary of the country’s Anti-corruption Front, about a serious of intelligence reports.

Montenegro in the video says “the government of President Rafael Correa is obviously penetrated by the guerrillas,” adding that “like the FARC operate in Ecuador and how they want to involve themselves in Panama.”

The former President said his party denounced the video when it was aired first, but “next he accused us of treason and that we were attacking national security.”

The current Ecuadorean Head of State has been accused by Colombia of having received financial support of the FARC. Both Correa and the FARC deny this.
