Cordoba in Villavicencio to begin hostage pickup

Senator Piedad Cordoba, flown by a Brazilian helicopter, arrived in the central Colombian city of Villavicencio to begin the humanitarian operation to release two hostages held by the FARC.

The Senator left for Brazil on Friday to meet with the Brazilian crew that will provide the logistical support for the operation.

On Sunday, Cordoba, the Brazilians, the bishop of the city of Magangue, members of Colombians for Peace and members of the International Red Cross will leave Villavicencio to pick up one of the two hostages the FARC promised to release.

The release of one of the hostages, soldier Pablo Emilio Moncayo, takes places almost a year after the FARC for the first time promised to release the soldier. Moncayo is the FARC’s longest hostages and has been held captive in the jungle since 1997. According to the FARC he is in poor health.

According to Colombian media, Moncayo will not be released until Tuesday. On Sunday, the FARC will first release soldier Josue Daniel Calvo.
