Two cops killed inside hospital

by Adriaan Alsema April 15, 2009

Colombia news - Arauca hospital

Two policemen were killed inside a hospital Tuesday in a town in the north-eastern department of Arauca, authorities said.

The officials, Danys Blanco and Carlos Piraguata, was shot by two unknown armed men in the waiting room of the hospital of the Saravena municipality, press agency AFP was informed.

Arauca Police commissioner Luis Alberto Ortíz says the double homicide is an act of revenge by the ELN, Colombia’s second largest rebel group. Colombia’s armed forces are currently involved in a heavy offensive against both FARC and ELN guerrillas in Arauca.

Authorities offered a 20 million peso (US$7,800) reward for the capture of the perpetrators.
