Copa Mustang: Junior take the lead as Pereira trash Chicó

Junior of Barranquilla are the new leaders in the Colombian Copa
Mustang, as Boyacá Chicó crashed to a painful defeat at Pereira.

Both goals at the match between Junior and Pasto came from the same player, as Carlos Bacca first netted in the 63rd minute and then added a second 13 minutes later.

Bogotá side La Equidad were held to a goalless draw by fourth-placed revelations Real Cartagena, but move into second place nevertheless as Chicó dropped more points.

The Tunja outfit expected much from their visit to Pereira but returned homewards with a 4-0 defeat in the pocket. Angulo Barahona scored in the first half, with Carlos Preciado, Francisco Córdoba and Luis Zapata doing so after the break.

The Cali classic between América and Deportivo had to be postponed due to heavy rain, but eventually took place 45 minutes after the scheduled time of kick-off. América dropped out of the top eight as Cali won thanks to a 20th-minute goal from Andrés Pérez, 0-1.

No less than three players were sent off in Envigado’s 2-0 win over Huila, with Duván Hernández dismissed for the home side while Iván Velásquez and Hernan Cordoba couldn’t finish the match for Huila. The goals came from Freddy Grisales (60th minute) and Carlos Alvarez in the 88th.

Junior now lead with 11 points from five games, followed by La Equidad and Chicó with ten points each.
