Congresswoman Cortes denies charges against her

Congresswoman Lucero Cortes, detained on Wednesday, has denied charges of trying to influence a judge, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.

Cortes reiterated comments made by her attorney on Wednesday after she was ordered to begin serving house arrest, adding that the evidence against her, along with being inconsistent, come from a witness who has a criminal record and is a “personal enemy.”

The congresswoman claimed furthermore that the order is excessive since she has never tried to evade the authorities. She added however that she has faith the justice system will ultimately “prove [her] innocence.”

Cortes is accused of influencing a judge from the Superior Judicial Council who was presiding over a case involving her husband.
