Congresswoman convicted for parapolitics

by Adriaan Alsema October 23, 2008

A Bogotá judge sentenced former congresswoman Eleonora Pineda to three
years and nine months in jail for her ties with paramilitary
organization AUC.

Initially the Convergencia Ciudadana politician received 90 months in prison. The sentence was halved because of her cooperation with justice.

Pineda helped the AUC establish contact between the paramilitary organization and politicians and was one of the people to sign the Ralito pact.

After the prosecution started investigating the politician, two of her brothers were murdered.
