Congressmen accuse Comptroller of offering bribes

by Adriaan Alsema March 28, 2009
916

According to a number of Congressmen, the private secretary of the
Comptroller General offered jobs at the fiscal watchdog in exchange for
favors.

Maria del Carmen Vasquez, private secretary of Comptroller General Julio Cesar Turbay came to a meeting in the House of Respresentatives Friday to offer the bribes, three Congressmen told Caracol Radio.

The Representatives would be rewarded with posts within the Comptroller’s Office  if they would support the secretary’s ambition to take part in the disciplinary chamber of the Superior Judicial Council.

Del Carmen Vasquez’ boss, Turbay, denies the allegations.

Caracol Radio established that Vasquez does have free entrance to the plenary of both the Senate and the House.
