Congressman sues collegue back

One of 86 Colombian congressman who were sued by a colleague for
allegedly having approved a faulty bill, filed charges against the
opposition representative for false accusations.

Roy Barresas, who just like his colleagues of the coalition parties, voted in favor of the approval of the referendum that seeks the re-election of President Álvaro Uribe.

The Cambio Radical Representative, referring to colleague German Navas Talero as a “radical bigot”, says the Polo Representative has been “threatening and intimidating colleagues for several moths, because he does not like democracy.”

According to Navas, the 86 coalition Representatives of the
House committed a crime by voting for the referendum, while they knew
the bill didn’t meet the legal requirements to be passed.

“The only thing that Congress wanted to do was to approve the referendum, defending a popular initiative,” Barreras told newspaper El Espectador. “The Constitution provides inviolability to Congressmen to pass bills like this,” he added.

The Supreme Court will now handle both charges and rule who has committed a crime.
