Conflict displaces 45 families in Nariño

The mass displacement totals 153 people, 84 of which are below the age of 18 according to a PHO report. The displaced families are currently staying with friends or family.

Local authorites began an assessment of the situation before it can be declared a mass displacement and the relevant care provided, PHO reported.

There are concerns over sanitation due to a shortage of drinking water and a lack of adequate sewerage systems.

A delegation of doctors was sent to the region Thursday to provide health care to the displaced in need of it.

The ongoing displacement crisis in the Nariño department is the result of continued armed conflict between guerrillas, paramilitaries and the national armed forces.
