Comptroller suspends investigation of Colombian officials

Colombia’s Comptroller General Sandra Morelli suspended the tax investigation of numerous senior officials due to a lack of clarity over the office’s jurisdiction, reported local media.

The Supreme Judicial Council ordered the investigations to continue under the authority of several of the council’s judges.

Morelli told news magazine Semana there was a need for “clarity about how far our competencies go.”

Among the hundreds of delayed investigations were those of Diego Palacio for embezzlement, and former Governor Luis Alfredo Ramos for irregularities in the granting of public contracts worth an estimated $10 million.
