Colombina hopes Africa has sweet tooth

The vice president of the company of Colombian food company Colombina announced plans to intensify operations in Africa, local media reported Sunday.

Jose Fernando Ochoa, vice president of Colombina, said in the last few years the company has broken into the markets of several African countries and plans to intensify operations there. He cited Mali, Morroco, Algeria, the Ivory Coast, Zambia, Gabon and Angola as counties where the food company is now present.

Ochoa said Africa is a continent “where we [Colombina] have had a presence for over 20 years and with 53 countries and 1 billion inhabitants offers great opportunities for us.”

Not including Venezuela the growth in Colombina exports was 15.2% last year. During the first trimester of 2011 domestic sales surpassed $158.9 million. Colombina is the confectioner behind the ubiquitous Bon Bon Bum lollipop and produces chewing gum, chocolate, cookies, and jellies.
