Colombia’s Prosecutor general’s Office announced Wednesday it has begun investigating allegations the country’s transport minister has illegally granted government contracts to a family business.
Minister Miguel Peñaloza and members of his family have been accused of having abused the Peñaloza’s power as minister to grant lucrative government contracts to P&G, a company owned by the Peñaloza family.
Following press reports about the alleged corruption, the minister himself asked the Inspector General’s Office, in charge of administrative investigations into public officials, to investigate the matter.
