Colombia’s registrar proud of fast vote count

The National Registrar Carlos Ariel Sanchez congratulated the Registry Office, telecommunications company UNE, and contractors for their fast and efficient work in the pre-counting of votes in Colombia’s Sunday presidential elections.

Sanchez said these entities “have allowed a milestone in the delivery of results twice in a row. 95% of the results were known in less than an hour.”

The registrar added that no problems had arisen in vote pre-counting.

Sanchez said that in the forthcoming elections of governors, mayors and councilmen, the Registry expects to have a schema that allows them to obtain immediate results, as with both rounds of the presidential elections.

“These elections are different in nature and a schema needs to be designed to permit the delivery of quick results, however, we must take into account the number of governors, mayors and councilors,” Sanchez said.

The Registry Office came under fire for incompetence following Colombia’s March 14 congressional elections.
