The Colombian navy has assisted a stranded yacht and her lone French sailor on the Caribbean coast.

The yacht had originally set off from Martinique, a French overseas region in the Caribbean, and was heading towards the Colombian city of Cartagena when it ran into problems.

According to local press, a navy report stated that the Frenchman turned on his emergency signal which was picked up by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in France, who in turn alerted the Colombian coast guard.

The yacht was found in adverse weather conditions, with waves reportedly reaching three – four feet in height.

The sailor and his boat were taken to the city of Santa Marta where it can be fixed.
