Colombia’s Miss World director arrested on embezzlement charges

The director of the Colombian branch of Miss World was arrested on embezzlement charges Monday.

Following an arrest warrant issued last week, Miss World director Edgar Botero surrendered to authorities in the capital Bogota.

The charges against Botero are not related to Miss World, but to Botero Aguilar, a construction company of which the Miss World executive is director.

The company allegedly embezzled millions of public funds from a road infrastructure project.

Because he voluntarily surrendered to justice, Botero was allowed to await trial under house arrest.
