Colombia’s Grupo Sura to list on Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana is the first Colombian financial company to be listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the firm announced Thursday.

According to a press release, Grupo Sura applied to be listed on the index along with 2,500 companies from around the world. In the financial sector there were 102 applicant companies of which only 18 were chosen, just three of them coming from Latin America. The company’s application was successful on its first attempt.

The Colombian financial giant said its listing confirms its position as one of the leading companies nationally and internationally in terms of sustainability. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index was launched in 1999 and tracks the performance of the leading sustainability lead companies globally.

David Bojanini, president of Grupo Sura, said “Being part of this index shows the commitment of Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana to responsible and ethical management … It is recognition and is a challenge to continue strengthening the practices and management of the organization.”

There are 342 companies on the index which rates companies on aspects including corporate governance,risk management, labor practices, environmental management, relationship with shareholders and policy transparency.
