Colombian banks make record $3.8B profit in 2011

Colombian banks made a record $3.8 billion profit in 2011, an increase of $560 million on last year.

The country’s Financial Superintendent revealed the growing banking industry sector in its annual report Tuesday.

Colombia’s financial sector generated a total profit of $414 million.

$8.71 million of home loans were issued, a 32.8% increase from last year.

Private pension funds and credit institutions also made gains, with $843 million and $4.9 billion each.
