Colombia’s first lady in Vogue cover shoot

María Clemencia Rodríguez de Santos, Colombia’s first lady and wife of President Juan Manuel Santos, is to appear on the front cover of Vogue’s Latin American edition.

Colombian weekly journal Semana reported the news on Tuesday, while Vogue Latin America labled the news as “historic.”

Kelly Talamas the Editorial Director of Vogue Mexico and Latin America said that “Vogue will make history this September as for the first time in the 14 years life of the Latin American edition that we have a first lady on our cover.”

“She will be only the third in the history of the international publication, after Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.”

The first lady, who will appear in two different covers of the September edition of Vogue, said in an interview that “as a woman, a Colombian and a mother, my natural vocation has been working for the children – particularly the 2 million children who are currently at risk in Colombia.”
