Colombia’s pop sensation Shakira is the first public figure to reach 100 million likes in the history of Facebook, international media reported on Thursday.

The Colombian singer has received thousands of likes after her performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup with the song “La La La (Brazil 2014)” featuring Pitbull, according to Variety magazine.

Shakira posted a thank-you video on her Facebook, which 419,384 fans have liked as of Friday afternoon.

The world famous singer commented on the occasion in the Wall Street Journal, saying, “[It’s] something I never necessarily anticipated but a really welcoming and heartwarming surprise.”

Since 2008, Shakira’s Facebook page has grown from 318,000 likes to the status of most followed person on Facebook, according to the Wall Street Journal.

One of the positive impacts of Shakira’s popularity is that it allows her to interact with fans with the help of two assistants and one supervisor monitoring her page.

“I can interact meaningfully with fans on a regular basis,” she told the Wall Street Journal.

The closest competitors in the Facebook-like-hunt is rapper Eminem with 90,773,281 likes, and in third place is Real Madrid soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo with 89,235,510 (statistics from July 1, 2014), according to social media analysis site, Inside Facebook.
