Colombia’s comptroller flees country after finding coffin in office

Colombia’s Comptroller General Sandra Morelli has fled the country after finding a coffin containing her picture in her office, according to newspaper El Espectador.

Morelli revealed that an international invitation existed and because of the many compromises she had made in her position she felt that the present situation obligated her to leave the country so as “to not continue exposing myself to this type of aggression.”

Morelli has been embroiled in controversy recently regarding a change of headquarters, against which the union has filed a class action lawsuit claiming that the move would cause the entity to run over budget and possibly lose autonomy.

The Comptroller attributed the threat to the union “led by Carlos Saavedra, one of the protesters with the coffin,” she said.

“He would have all types of aggressions and it is better to leave for a few days and meet with the international commitment. It is clearly identified who the culprits are in this act of aggression to discredit me,” said Morelli.
