Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen nominated for world athlete of the year

World athletics federation IAAF on Friday nominated Colombian athlete Caterine Ibarguen for the 2014 Athlete of the Year award.

Ibarguen, who won silver at the triple jump at the 2012 Olympics and gold at the 2013 World Cup in Moscow, finds herself on the nomination list for the second consecutive year.

The Colombian is the only Latin American sportsperson nominated for the honor.

According to the IAAF, Ibarguen’s entered the shortlist for being undefeated in the triple jump all year, has jumped the farthest of all athletes since 2008 and took home the golden medals for the Diamond Race and the Continental Cup.

Ibarguen was declared Colombian sportswoman of the year in 2013.
