Colombia pop singer Carlos Vives is among the favorites to win Singer of the Year in the 2014 Latin Grammys.

Vives is the most nominated of Colombian contenders (with six nominations) and is also the overall favorite to win.

His song “Cuando Nos Volvamos a Encontrar” is expected to be a top contender for the Song of the Year category. Other contenders include Enrique Iglesias (Bailando), Marc Anthony (Cambio de Piel), and Prince Royce (Darte un Beso).

Vives is also expected to win the awards for both song and album in the Tropical category, though he has stiff competition from Prince Royce. The competition between Vives and Anthony for this category is shaping up to be the highlight of the event.

Several other Colombian artists in the running are competitive but have difficult competition.

Fonseca will also be in competition with Vives and the Puerto Rican group Calle 13 in the Album of the Year category.

J. Balvin was nominated in the categories of Urban Performance, Urban Song, and Urban album but will have a hard time winning over Calle 13 and others that have stood out in these categories for some time.

Colombians stand better chances with the two contenders in the production area, as well as solid contributions to the Rock and Folk categories.

Julio Reyes Copello, the Colombian who produced Marc Anthony’s nominated Album “3.0,” also has six nominations for awards. Andres Castro is also in the mix for Producer of the year, but is not expected to be as competitive as Copello.
