Colombia’s Caribbean coast prepares for tropical storm

Authorities on Colombia’s Caribbean coast and the island of San Andres are preparing for the arrival of severe weather due to tropical storm Matthew.

Even though the eye of the storm is staying north of the Caribbean islands of San Andres and Providencia, authorities expect heavy rains and squalls to hit the islands and Colombia’s northern coast on Friday and Saturday.

Authorities recommend tourists, fishermen and boat owners to consult the different port authorities before going to sea.

U.S. hurricane authorities are expecting Matthew to turn into a hurricane on Friday before hitting Honduras and continuing towards Belize and Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula.
